How fast could you run 106 miles in ONE week? Find out the leading lady of our week’s GRTW V Ultra Alps virtual race
Over the month of August we invited women to enter our virtual running challenge to race 106 miles in one week.
Supported by Salomon Running, the virtual event emulated the world famous, Ultra Trail Mont Blanc in terms of the distance. We also created a monthly challenge for those women who wanted to undertake it over a longer time period and who wanted to log ascent.
Our mission was to increase women’s participation in endurance sport, alongside increasing diversity in trail and ultra running.
Participants ranged in age from 25 to 73, showing that age is no barrier to trail running. Our findings from our research are still being collated but from results so far show that 57% of the women who participated are now interested in running an ultra marathon.
The faster female runner of the week long event was Claire Hoey, who ran 106 miles in 22 hours, 2 minutes and 8 seconds. Congratulations! She wins a GRTW running vest and 50% off any online strength, mobility or training programmes up to a value of £50, valid for six months.
Well done to our runners up, 2nd: Hazel Kerrison in a time of 22:48:38 and 3rd, Louise Sutherland – 24:02:18.
