From the beauty of London’s city parks to the mountains of California, where our running race reporter, Sarah Shaw will be running this weekend, this is our pick of this weekend’s bucket list races
Royal Parks Half
Over 16,000 runners will run through four of London’s eight Royal Parks, including Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James’s Park and Kensington Gardens, crunching through 13.1 miles of autumn leaves and passing iconic landmarks along the way – such as Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament.
As you might expect from a race series that was created to support the Royal Parks, there is an admirable focus on sustainability – from bamboo and recycled polyester finisher t-shirts to edible water capsules made from seaweed, and medals made from FSC-certified beech wood. They also just happen to be some of the most beautiful medals around. We’d be wearing these with pride for a long time. It’s a busy race though so unless you’re up the front, don’t expect a PB.

Lake Tahoe Marathon weekend, choose between a 72 mile Ultra, 4-person Marathon relay, Half, 10k, 5k and kids fun run.
This one’s not for the faint-hearted with the lake sitting at a lung-busting 6000 feet altitude, and you’ll continue to climb from there. But with views as stunning as these, this is no time to be in a hurry anyway. Take your time, fill your lungs with clean-as-a -whistle mountain air, and your soul with joy.
The timing of this one is also impeccable – the first snowfalls of the season have already capped the higher peaks, but it’s still crisp and sunny at ground level – trail running heaven! For more information visit Lake Tahoe Marathon
